Understanding Amazon FBA: A Comprehensive Guide for Sellers

What is Fulfillment by Amazon?
Fulfillment by Amazon is a paid service that allows you to outsource your order fulfillment entirely to Amazon. Amazon will store your products in one of the FBA prep centers; handle all of the packaging, shipping, and returns; and even manage your customer service interactions. Products enrolled in Amazon FBA are entitled to Amazon’s two-day Prime shipping guarantee as well as Amazon’s return policy.
What are the benefits of Amazon FBA?
Amazon FBA has a few distinct benefits for sellers, namely:
● Scalability. You can sell and store as many or as few products as possible without worrying about running out of storage space.
● Better customer service. Amazon takes over any customer service issues regarding late shipment, product quality, and returns.
● Reduced costs. FBA prep centers usually charge less to ship and store products than many other options.
● More time to focus on selling. You won’t have to waste time dealing with product handling and customer issues, allowing you to focus
on growing your business instead.
● Global shipping. If you enroll in Remote Fulfillment with FBA or Amazon Export, then you can ship overseas.
How Much Does It Cost?
Fulfillment by Amazon charges you a specific rate based on factors such as product type and quantity. They’ll also charge you for extra optional services if you choose to include them. Costs typically include:
● Cost of fulfillment. Amazon will charge you a set fee that covers product packaging, shipping, and handling, as well as customer
service and returns. The amount will be based on the type of product as well as size and weight.
● Monthly storage. To store your products, Amazon charges based on size and volume as well as whether any of your products are
labeled as dangerous goods.
● Older inventory. If your products have been in one of Amazon’s FBA prep centers for over 181 days, you’ll get charged an extra fee.
Is Amazon FBA Right For You?
Not all products are eligible for fulfillment by Amazon. You can check through the Register for FBA section of Amazon Seller Central to see if your products are eligible for their program. If you do decide to enroll, you’ll send your inventory to Amazon’s fulfillment network and manage your inventory with FBA. While some smaller sellers with fewer orders may find cheaper options elsewhere, Amazon FBA is an attractive option for many sellers to outsource a lot of the grunt work for a more affordable fee.
