Warehouse Automation: Will Robots Replace Human Workers in Amazon Prep?

Amazon's using automation at their factories and workplaces is no secret - in fact, they’ve been aiming to continue implementing more robotic systems. Amazon’s warehouses, or also called fulfillment centers, are filled with all sorts of machinery. These machines are able to do tasks such as moving items, sorting them, and packing them, tasks originally done by human workers.
The Amazon Kiva system is one of the robotic systems that Amazon uses. The Kiva system is a system that was created by Amazon, for the purpose of delivering items to human workers. These systems have been created to reduce on operational costs and errors.
While this all seems worrying, it does not exactly mark the end for human jobs. When inspecting machinery in warehouses, people have found out that robots struggle in decision-making and problem-solving, a task that humans can easily do. While robots do excel in the field of doing certain tasks, especially repetitive ones, they still require human oversight for problems or irregular / delicate items.
In conclusion, the rise of AI and automation does not mark the end for human jobs. In fact, it raises opportunities! Amazon has previously stated that they’ve been developing a system that’s designed to prepare and train employees to do more complex tasks such as managing and troubleshooting these devices. As technology will continue to advance, it will also open up more opportunities to the world. With the combined strength and knowledge of both AI and humans, they can define the future to both achieve greater efficiency and productivity.
